- Nordex have joined major turbine manufacturers to produce a 6MW onshore turbine.
- The model has a 7% higher energy yield compared to its 5MW model.
- Production of the turbine will commence in 2023.
German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex joins competitors including Siemens Gamesa, GE, and Vestas to offer a 6 MW onshore turbine. The new turbine is designed for moderate and light-wind regions. According to Nordex, the new turbine (the N163/6.X) can produce a 7% higher annual energy yield than its 5MW model (the N163/5.X).
The company says it utilises a more efficient gearbox to achieve the higher-rated output in the 6MW range. In addition, the electrical system of the Delta4000 product series has been adapted by raising the nominal voltage and using an improved cooling system. As a result, the N163/6.X is expected to have a life span of at least 25 years and up to 35 years for specific sites. Nordex plans to begin the production of the 6MW turbine next year.
