The North-East Governors seek progress on the Mambilla project
- Say, for now, the project is only on paper
- Call for regional partnership
The North-East Governors’ Forum has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to fast track the completion of the Mambilla Dam project. The Forum made this known in a Communique signed by the Chairman of the Forum, Borno state governor, Baba Gana Zulum.
The Forum said the project was only on paper as it is yet to commence. It stressed the importance of the project to the regional development of the North-East which has been ravaged by insecurity and poverty. The Communique further noted the poor amount allocated to it for capital projects in the 2021 Appropriation Budget. “There is the need to make available adequate allocation for capital projects in the build-up to the supplementary budget, which is the only means to redress the apparent injustice to the region”, it said.
On the Green Wall Project, the Forum acknowledged the impact so far and stated its willingness to work hand in hand with the UK government in addressing projects beneficial to the region.
