- Transpower says supply will be restored on Sunday
- A fallen power line on Monday led to damages on six power pylons
A fallen power line has caused power cuts in the North Island of New Zealand. The New Zealand grid operator had on Tuesday warned of possible power cuts due to the damaged line. Six pylons were damaged in the incident forcing the grid operator Transpower has begun works on the damaged equipment.
Despite the damages, Transpower has said, it did not expect any power cuts. Grid Delivery Manager Mark Ryall said ‘barring a major plant failure’, full supply service would be restored on Sunday afternoon.
Transpower stated that electricity generators ramped up electricity generation and turned off water systems in response to the grid emergency. However, electricity generation has dropped by about 15% and is expected to continue while the country remains at level 4 alert.
