NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a division of the government-owned power company NTPC Ltd in India, has a contract to provide 1.3 GW of renewable energy to a sizable green ammonia complex in Andhra Pradesh.

NTPC stated that a term contract for the deliveries had been signed with Greenko ZeroC Pvt Ltd, a division of the Greenko Group. The contract, according to the electricity generation business, is one of the biggest worldwide for continuous renewable energy for an industrial client.

The Greenko green ammonia production facility in Kakinada will use the contracted electricity volumes to produce its product, which will be exported to the European market.

The German energy provider Uniper SE revealed plans to speak with Greenko informally about removing 250,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually from the site last month.

Ammonia will be made at an electrolysis facility in the project’s initial phase using 2.5 GW of continuously generated renewable energy. By 2027, the ammonia facility should be able to produce one million tonnes of ammonia annually.
