- NTPC has commissioned India’s largest floating solar project.
- The plant has a capacity of 25MW.
- The plant will offset about 46,000 tons of CO2.
India’s largest integrated energy company, NTPC, has integrated the country’s largest floating solar power plant., NTPC installed the 25MW system at the reservoir of its Simhadri thermal power station in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The plant comprises over 100,000 solar modules covering a water surface area of 75 acres.
The system is expected to generate enough power for about 7,000 households and prevent up to 46,000 tons of CO2 throughout its lifetime. The panels on the reservoir will also prevent the evaporation of 1,364 million litres of water annually.
India’s NTPC has 66.9GW of power generation capacity via its 71 power stations that include 29 clean energy plants; The company also has over 17GW of generation capacity under construction, including 5GW of clean energy. The company wants to deploy 60GW of clean energy capacity by 2032.
