The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) has honoured Gbenga Komolafe, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), with the Corporate Partner in Energy Policy Reform Award at its 50th anniversary dinner in Lagos.

NAPE said Komolafe’s leadership at NUPRC has been pivotal in advancing reforms that strengthened regulatory clarity, enhanced investor confidence, and promoted transparency in Nigeria’s upstream oil and gas sector under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

Meanwhile, since assuming office in 2021, Komolafe has overseen initiatives to improve governance, boost crude oil production, and promote gas development to support Nigeria’s energy transition goals.

Receiving the award, Komolafe dedicated the recognition to the NUPRC team, saying it would further inspire the Commission to sustain its commitment to transparency, accountability, and enabling upstream investment.

Furthermore, he noted that under the PIA, the Commission has issued 19 enabling regulations aligned with global standards, developed a 10-year strategic plan, and rolled out a regulatory action plan to remove industry bottlenecks and attract new investments.

Komolafe reaffirmed NUPRC’s determination to strengthen Nigeria’s upstream sector as a driver of energy transition and long-term economic growth.
