Amsterdam-based independent power producer Verdian has announced the acquisition of 917 MW of battery storage and wind projects in Italy, diversifying its renewable energy portfolio and expanding in one of its core European markets.

The deal included a 90-MW long-duration battery storage project in Campania and two standalone battery projects totalling 190 MW in Puglia. Construction of the three systems is scheduled for 2026, with commissioning expected by late 2027.

Verdian said it had also purchased an onshore wind portfolio of up to 493 MW paired with 144 MW of storage. Developed by Gruppo Hope, the six projects in this package are located in Lazio, Puglia and Tuscany and are expected to reach ready-to-build status in 2027.

“These acquisitions represent a turning point for Verdian and confirm our ability to identify, develop and operate projects with high strategic value. Combining different renewable technologies enables us to build a balanced and resilient portfolio, ready to meet the needs of the power system of the future in one of Europe’s key markets,” said Alfonso Ortal, CEO of Verdian.

Verdian, part of Nuveen Infrastructure’s Clean Energy Fund IV, states that it has approximately 3 GW of projects under development, with Italy accounting for around 75 per cent of its pipeline.
