- Octopus Energy launched the Astris fund to give private wealth and pension investors access to over 50 clean energy projects in 15 countries.
- With £165 million in initial backing and monthly liquidity, Astris combines institutional-grade ESG standards with flexible access.
Octopus Energy Generation, the fund management arm of Octopus Energy Group, has launched a flagship fund to make clean energy infrastructure accessible to private wealth and pension investors without compromising financial returns.
In addition, the CG Octopus Energy Sustainable Growth Fund I (‘Astris’) provides access to a diversified portfolio of over 50 renewable energy projects across 15 countries. The assets include wind, solar, and large-scale battery developments, now available through major investment platforms.
“For too long, pension schemes and private wealth have had limited investment opportunities in private markets due to a lack of innovative solutions,” said Matt Setchell, Co-Head of Octopus Energy Generation. “The launch of this fund changes that.”
Meanwhile, Astris launched with a £165 million (€194 million) cornerstone investment and ranks among the first private market funds to earn the UK FCA’s ‘Sustainable Focus’ label under the new Sustainability Disclosure Requirements (SDR), a mark reflecting high ESG integrity standards.
Unlike most private market vehicles, Astris offers monthly liquidity. This feature allows investors to co-invest alongside some of the world’s largest institutional funds. The fund’s structure makes it a compelling option for asset managers and allocators seeking scalable green exposure.
“Day one investors will own a globally diverse portfolio of renewable projects and companies, delivering genuine impact with no compromise on financial returns,” Setchell added.
Furthermore, Octopus Energy manages £7 billion in green energy assets and powers over 2.4 million homes annually. By 2030, the company plans to deploy £20 billion (€23 billion) in clean energy.
Carne Group, a leading fund oversight and compliance provider, governs the fund. “The fund is an important enabler of private wealth and pension fund exposure to private infrastructure as an asset class and the energy transition as an investment opportunity,” said Jeremy Soutter, Managing Director at Carne Group. “We believe our partnership with Octopus also exemplifies the benefits of collaboration in facilitating innovation and delivering best-in-class fund management processes for end investors.”
With Astris, Octopus Energy continues to lead the charge in democratising green investment, bringing institutional-grade infrastructure within the reach of long-overlooked investors.
