Octopus Energy Launches $250m Africa Fund for Energy Transition

  • Octopus Energy Generation launched the Octopus Energy Power Africa Fund (OEPA) with an initial investment of $60 million in clean energy infrastructure.
  • Octopus aims to bridge global capital with local energy needs, drive inclusive growth, and build a scalable, low-carbon energy system in sub-Saharan Africa.

Octopus Energy Generation, the renewables investment arm of UK-based Octopus Energy, has launched the Octopus Energy Power Africa Fund (OEPA) to scale up clean energy infrastructure across Africa.

The company also committed $60 million in initial capital and aims to raise $250 million. The fund will invest in rooftop solar, battery storage, electric vehicle (EV) charging networks, and grid modernisation projects.

Meanwhile, Octopus Energy Generation partnered with Pembani Remgro Infrastructure Managers, a South African infrastructure investment firm, to bring deep regional expertise into the fund’s strategy. Together, they will unlock new capital flows and develop sustainable, scalable clean energy projects in sub-Saharan Africa.

“Africa holds massive clean energy potential. With the right partnerships, we can accelerate the continent’s transition and create a fairer, greener future,” said Ashleigh Gray, Director of the OEPA Fund. “This fund offers investors a direct path into one of the fastest-growing energy markets in the world.”

The partnership aims to close the gap between global capital and local energy demand while deploying projects that boost economic growth, climate resilience, and energy access.

“We see a clear opportunity in Africa’s infrastructure sector,” said Herc van Wyk, CEO of Pembani Remgro. “By working with Octopus, we can mobilise capital for impactful, clean energy solutions that transform communities and economies.”

Furthermore, Octopus Energy Generation designed the OEPA Fund to meet Africa’s rising electricity demand and address ageing infrastructure and power shortages. The fund also plans to prioritise projects that provide reliable, low-carbon electricity and promote inclusive development.

With a robust pipeline of opportunities, Octopus Energy and Pembani Remgro also aim to deploy capital quickly and deliver renewable energy projects that power homes, businesses, and public infrastructure.

“We’re not just investing in technology, we’re investing in people and progress,” Gray added.

Octopus Energy Generation is now engaging with additional investors who share its mission to drive Africa’s energy transition and generate substantial, long-term returns.
