- IPP calls on TCN management to change old transmission cables.
- The firm complained of the inability of the existing cables to transmit load.
Ibom Power IPP has called on the management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) over the dilapidated transmission cables from Aba in Abia State to Itu in Akwa Ibom State. According to the IPP, the wires have not been reconductored since 1978, when it was installed.
In an interview with journalists in Uyo on Sunday, the Managing Director of Ibom Power Plant, Mr Meyen Etukudo, noted that if a load above 55MW are put on it, it will trip on over current. According to him, the State government had been begging TCN to change the lines, but they had not shown up yet.
Etukudo said that the company’s existing 191 Megawatt (MW) was capable of providing steady electricity in the State but for the old cables of TCN.
