- Oman inaugurates 500MW solar PV in Al Dhahirah, Saudia Arabia.
- Three energy companies own the project.
Oman is set to commission a 500MW Ibri II solar photovoltaic (PV) park in the northwestern governorate of Al Dhahirah, which represented an investment of about OMR 155 million. According to local media, the solar park will be launched by Oman’s Minister of Interior Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al Busadi.
The electricity from the park is fed into the public grid under a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWPC). At peak capacity, the complex will generate enough electricity to supply 33,000 homes and offset 340,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Ibri-II is the second grid-connected renewable energy park in the Sultanate after the 50MW Dhofar wind park that went online in 2019.
The project is owned in part (50 per cent) by Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power, with the Gulf Investment Corporation holding 40 per cent and the Alternative Energy Projects Co is controlling the remaining 10 per cent.
