- Prof. Yemi Osinbajo calls for the cooperation of African leaders to combat climate change.
- Africa has all the resources including population to combat climate crisis.
Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has urged African leaders and nations to band together and forge a shared purpose to advance the Climate Positive Growth Agenda. The agenda intends to demonstrate how Africa can contribute to the development of their nations’ economies while providing solutions to the world’s climate challenge. Osinbajo made the request during a meeting with the Africa Europe Foundation (AEF) that took place in Nairobi, Kenya, in conjunction with the Ibrahim Governance Weekend event. The Vice President stressed the importance of the following stages and added that African states must comprehend their role in the agenda and how to advance it.
Using Nigeria as an example, he claimed that the energy resources of the nation are primarily derived from hydropower, and that the Energy Transition Plan and Renewable Energy Plan place tremendous emphasis on renewable energy. Africa, according to Osinbajo, has all the necessary components, including a young population and an abundance of renewable resources, to help realize the net zero aim. He also argued in favor of a fair and equitable carbon market, one where everyone would have access and where money would be used to power the system.
