- Ossiomo Power Company was awarded for being the best IPP in Nigeria.
- The facility is being extended to other parts of the state, with a plan to generate and distribute 1,000 kilowatts.
Ossiomo Power Company has been named the finest independent power generator in the nation. Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, said in a statement yesterday that this came after changes to the electricity sector by Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.
The company received recognition at the 2022 Nigeria Power Sector Awards, which honour the contributions and successes of governmental and commercial organizations and individuals in the renewable energy/off-grid sector and the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) value chain.
A Public Private Partnership (PPP) was used to create Ossiomo, a 95MW power-producing and distribution facility in Edo. It runs the city’s administrative buildings, medical facilities, streetlights, and industrial hubs.
Emotan Gardens Estate, Edo Tech Park, and Edo Creative Hub, among others, enjoy daily 22-24 hours of stable electricity supply from the facility. In addition, the facility is being extended to other parts of the state, with a plan to generate and distribute 1,000 kilowatts to each of Edo’s three senatorial districts.
The awards were held on November 23 in Abuja, recognizing Ossiomo Power and other public and private sector organizations and individuals in the NESI who, by their investments and activities, have demonstrated a track record of progress, growth, and innovation in the industry.
According to the Managing Director of Ossiomo Power Company, Dr Uwa Igiehon, the award is a testament to the company’s commitment to ensuring adequate electricity to industrial power activities in Edo State today.
