- A 10 MW solar power plant will power the Otjikoto gold mine in Namibia.

Namibia’s Otjikoto gold mine will go green with a 10 MW solar power plant. Sustainable Power Solutions (SPS) and local partners plan the initiative.
They will build the solar plant on the Maxwell farm, aiming for 26,360 MWh of clean energy yearly. NamPower’s Modified Single Buyer (MSB) model enables this shift.
It allows power producers to supply electricity directly to distributors and industries. The clean energy will flow through NamPower’s grid.
The Otjikoto gold mine expects to use this solar power by late 2024. The project needs a 200 million Namibian dollars investment, offsetting 26,360 tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually.
B2Gold, Namibia’s largest mining operator, supports this green move. They have committed to a 30 MWp solar power plant at the Fekola gold mine in Mali.
