Over 50 communities in Enugu state have been thrown into darkness.

An attack on the Agwu 33KV mainline in Aninri Local Government Area (LGA), belonging to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), has left over 50 communities Enugu state in darkness. During the attack, from Nenwe junction to World University, 40 spans of aluminium conductors were removed. There was also the damage of 15 high tension poles.
Emeka Ezeh, Head, Corporate Communications EEDC, stated that this was not the first time vandals attacked part of the network. He said that the attacks had been since January this year. Also, according to him, this recent attack is just two weeks after the company spent millions of naira repairing previously vandalized infrastructure.
According to him, all the communities in Aninri LGA and some in Ebonyi state were affected. Emeka Ezeh said, ‘Vandalism of power installations within the EEDC’s network has remained a cog in the wheel of progress. No day passes without an incident of vandalism in one or two locations within the network.’
