Pakistan Boosts Solar Efficiency with 210mm Panels

Pakistan aims to generate 60 per cent of its energy from clean and renewable sources by 2030, prompting significant changes in its energy landscape. Solar power is rapidly gaining popularity, with nationwide rooftops featuring solar panels. Yet, many overlook the crucial impact of panel size on energy output.

Experts highlight the rising importance of 210mm wafers, which revolutionise the global solar market. Research firm Trendforce reports that production capacity for these larger wafers has surged to 457GW, nearly 40 per cent of global output.

In Pakistan, Trina Solar leads the adoption of this advanced technology, with an impressive 120GW of module shipments. The 210mm technology platform offers several advantages over smaller 182mm cells, including higher efficiency, better logistics, and increased value across various applications.

The slightly larger surface area of the 210mm modules results in greater power output per panel. Trina Solar’s modules, for example, deliver up to 625W of power with an efficiency rate exceeding 23 per cent. Experts view the shift toward 210mm modules as a significant leap in solar technology.

In Pakistan, this transition has already shown clear benefits. SAK Steel, for instance, uses Trina Solar’s Vertex 665W modules to power its electric steel furnace with solar energy. The company’s use of bifacial ground-mounted modules raised slightly from the ground noticeably increases production.

Similarly, Shalimar Filter Industries powers its entire factory with solar energy. This switch results in estimated annual savings of $24,000 on electricity costs, with a return on investment within 14 to 16 months. These examples underscore the practical benefits of adopting larger, more efficient solar panels in Pakistan’s industrial sector.

As Pakistan pursues its renewable energy goals, larger solar panels are crucial for higher efficiency and cost savings.
