- Petrobras said that it would team up with SENAI-ER to build a pilot electrolysis plant to study the aspects of the green hydrogen value chain.
- The firm will use the hydrogen produced to analyse the performance of microturbines and their structural integrity.
Petrobras said it would collaborate with the local renewable energies innovation institute SENAI-ER to build a pilot electrolysis plant in Brazil to study the green hydrogen value chain. Petrobras will invest BRL 90 million (USD 18.1m) in the cooperation agreement for the three-year project.
Also, the new facility will use the output generated by Petrobras’ 1-MWp Alto Rodrigues Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plant, located in Rio Grande do Norte state of Brazil. The firm added that it will increase the PV park capacity to 2.5 MWp to meet the power demand of the pilot electrolysis plant.
Petrobras said it will use the hydrogen produced to analyse the performance of microturbines and their structural integrity due to the combustion of hydrogen and natural gas mixtures. Furthermore, Jean-Paul Prates, president of Petrobras, said the development of knowledge about equipment behaviour caused by the hydrogen and natural gas mixture will help create business models of interest for the company.
He stated that this initiative will contribute to the economic feasibility analysis of projects to produce low-carbon hydrogen and byproducts.
