Petronas, a distributed energy unit of Malaysian oil and gas company Petroliam Nasional Bhd, has signed a long-term solar power deal with Microsoft, the US technology giant.
In specific terms, Amplus solar and Microsoft made a contract linked to a 100 MW solar project currently under development by Microsoft and located in Rajasthan, a state in India. The two companies gave no further details on the deal or the project.
Concurrently, Microsoft and Petronas have agreed to develop the energy industry’s first Digital Sustainability Core. Both companies will collaborate on building an intelligent platform that is to be powered by data and artificial intelligence (AI) to support Petronas’s decarbonisation activities. According to the announcement, the platform will establish a unified sustainability data hub to record, report, and reduce emissions.
Petronas has set a target of 2050 to become carbon-neutral.
