- PFO Africa signs concession for 52MW solar power plant in Sokhoro, Ivory Coast.
- The project will create jobs, contribute to the national grid and align with the Ivorian government’s 600MW solar capacity goal by 2026.
Abidjan-based PFO Africa is expanding into energy with a new concession agreement with the Ivorian government. The deal enables the construction of a 52 MW photovoltaic solar power plant in Sokhoro, Ferkessédougou division, starting in the second quarter of 2024 and expected to be operational by the end of 2025.
Ivorian Minister Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly highlights job creation—150 during construction and 15 permanent positions. Over 25 years, the plant will contribute to Côte d’Ivoire’s grid. PFO Africa’s special-purpose company, Ferké Solar, invests 39.5 billion CFA francs (around 60 million euros) in the clean energy initiative. This aligns with the Ivorian government’s strategy to deploy 600 MW solar capacity by 2026.
Ivory Coast currently has 2,907 MW installed capacity, with 30 per cent from renewables. Following this, the Boundiali 37.5 MWp solar plant, inaugurated in June 2023, aims to diversify the electricity mix. Funded by a 27 million euro loan from KfW and a 9.7 million euro grant from the EU, it aims to power at least 30,000 households.
