- PG&E begins public safety power shutoff
- At least 18 counties may lose supply
San Francisco’s energy utility, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), have begun implementing the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) across cities in Northern California, including the North Bay and East Bay. The PSPS will affect up to 51,000 electricity consumers in the affected areas as the Dixie Fire spreads. In addition, at least 18 Northern California counties may be affected by the shutoff, PG&E said.
The region is currently under a Red Flag Warning for extreme fire conditions. Low humidity, warm temperatures have fueled the growing fire. In addition, PG&E has previously stated that one of its cables may have ignited the fires which began in July.
