- PG&E may cut power to several households
- Dixie fire rages on
- 40,000 customers may be affected
Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) announced that it might cut power to several households as California’s second-largest wildfire, the Dixie fire, continues to spread. PG&E says it may shut down power to prevent the fires from sparking further. Sixteen counties may be affected, with nearly 40,000 customers at the risk of having their supply cut.
PG&E has said that forecasts of dry winds have prompted the warning that it may shut off the power. The utility said it would continue to watch the situation and may begin to shut off the power on Tuesday night if weather conditions persist.
”Given this wind event and current conditions including extreme to exceptional drought and extremely dry vegetation, PG&E has begun sending 48-hour advance notifications to customers in targeted areas where PG&E may need to proactively turn power off for safety to reduce the risk of wildfire from energized power lines,” PG&E said in a statement.
