The Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, believes that Plateau State can become a major electricity provider.
Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, has recently enacted two pivotal electricity bills that signify a significant stride towards ensuring a robust and reliable power supply for the state’s economic prosperity and overall progress.
These laws, namely, the Plateau State Energy Corporation and Plateau State Electricity Market, are strategically crafted to facilitate the generation of ample electricity, incorporating renewable energy sources. The primary goal is to fulfil the public’s energy needs while also allowing surplus electricity to be sold to neighbouring states.
The official signing ceremony took place on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at the New Government House Little Rayfield, Jos. Governor Mutfwang underscored the substantial potential of each Local Government Area within the state to play a vital role in electricity generation and distribution.
During his address, Governor Mutfwang emphasized the crucial role of electricity in the state’s developmental journey, ranking second only to water in importance. He highlighted the severe constraints that would be imposed on functionality without a reliable power supply.
Governor Mutfwang extended a warm invitation to both local and international investors, citing the favourable climate and hospitable investment environment within the state. He envisioned the state becoming a major electricity provider and expressed confidence in achieving this goal with cooperation and support.
Acknowledging the Plateau State House of Assembly for promptly passing the bills, Governor Mutfwang solicited continued collaboration for the state’s advancement. The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Philimon Daffi, hailed the laws as essential components of the current administration’s development agenda.
Barr. Daffi emphasized the pivotal role of electricity in industrial growth and commended Barr. Caleb Mutfwang’s leadership for taking deliberate measures to enhance electricity infrastructure. These efforts, he noted, contribute to delivering tangible benefits of democracy to the populace, aligning with the state’s commitment to progress and development
