Potentia Energy Powers Up with 1GW Aussie Renewables Portfolio

  • Potentia Energy acquires over 1GW of wind, solar, and storage assets across Australia, boosting its renewable capacity.
  • The deal includes key projects like Warradarge Wind Farm and Bungala Solar Farm, plus a stake in Bright Energy Investments.
  • A 7GW project pipeline has been secured, with plans to scale development and support Australia’s 82% renewable energy target by 2030.

Potentia Energy has acquired over 1 gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy assets in Australia, strengthening its position among the country’s top clean energy producers.

Enel Green Power and Japan’s INPEX Corporation jointly own Potentia Energy. The company secured the portfolio from infrastructure investor CVC DIF and pension fund Cbus Super. The deal also includes a stake in Bright Energy Investments (BEI), a joint venture with Synergy, Western Australia’s state-owned utility.

Potentia Energy added more than 700 megawatts (MW) of operating solar and wind farms. It also gained over 430 MW of late-stage development projects. The acquisition boosts its presence in the National Electricity Market (NEM) and the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM).

The company now owns key assets across several states and the Australian Capital Territory. These assets include the Warradarge Wind Farm, Greenough River Solar Farm, Albany Grasmere Wind Farm, and Clare and Royalla Solar Farms. Potentia Energy also acquired the remaining stake in the Bungala Solar Farm in South Australia.

Before the deal, the company already operated more than 400 MW of solar capacity in South Australia and Victoria. It also ran a 75 MW wind farm in Western Australia. In New South Wales, Potentia Energy is developing a hybrid project combining 98 MW solar power and 20 MW battery storage.

With the new acquisition, the company now controls over 1.5 GW of operational and near-ready assets in Australia. Potentia Energy also holds development rights for more than 7 GW of future projects. This pipeline features various states’ wind, solar, storage, and hybrid systems.

The company views the deal as a critical part of its growth strategy. Potentia Energy plans to scale up its renewable energy portfolio and meet Australia’s rising demand for clean power.

Chief Executive Officer Werther Esposito described the acquisition as a turning point. “This deal expands our capabilities and creates new opportunities,” he said. “Our shareholders continue to provide strong support for our growth.”

Esposito also emphasised BEI’s importance in Western Australia. “BEI plays a vital role in the state’s transition to clean energy,” he said.

Australia continues to push for higher renewable targets. The federal government aims to reach 82% renewable energy in the national grid by 2030. Potentia Energy plans to contribute significantly to this goal by accelerating development and expanding its asset base.

With this acquisition, Potentia Energy deepens its presence in Australia’s renewable sector. The company plans to deliver more projects and support the country’s shift toward cleaner electricity.
