- SolarWorks! Mozambique has been selected as the developer for the project.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide SolarWorks! Mozambique with a $320,000 grant to deploy solar PV systems in 92 health centres in the Sofala Province of the country. SolarWorks! will fit each health centre with 55.2kWp capacity solar systems. The deployment of the solar systems would benefit the province, where 90% of health centres do not have regular access to electricity. The project is expected to benefit 138,000 people. It would provide needed energy to power essential medical equipment, refrigerate medicines and vaccines, coordinate care and enable information sharing with other health professionals.
This project is part of the Power Africa Initiative launched in 2013 to fund 30,000 MW of installed capacity and provide electricity access to about 60 million Africans by 2030. To date, Power Africa has financed 12,000 MW of installed capacity, providing electricity to 20 million people, according to its manager USAID.
