On August 9, Power Minister Mr Adebayo Adelabu announced substantial infrastructure investments during a courtesy visit by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.
In a statement from his Special Adviser on Strategic Communication and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, Adelabu outlined plans to boost Nigeria’s power sector. He emphasised that the investment will strengthen the Nigerian economy by reinforcing transmission infrastructure along the Lagos-Ogun Industrial Corridor.
The investment will target the Agbara, Mowe, and Shagamu industrial clusters. Adelabu explained that the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) projects will improve power transmission within and beyond the Ogun industrial areas. Ongoing projects by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) will upgrade the power supply to Ogun State.
These projects include building new substations, upgrading existing ones, and reinforcing high-voltage power lines. Adelabu also urged Governor Abiodun to support efforts to enhance state gas pipeline infrastructure. Improving pipeline infrastructure will boost gas quality and supply to power plants and industries.
Adelabu committed to officially visiting Ogun State to meet with local industrialists. This visit will explore potential areas for cooperation and collaboration. Governor Abiodun commended Adelabu for the recent improvements in power supply nationwide. He praised the minister’s ongoing efforts to reform the power sector and encouraged him to maintain this progress.
During the visit, Abiodun appealed for further enhancements to power infrastructure in Ogun State. He highlighted the state’s importance as a central industrial hub and noted Adelabu’s previous visits to the region’s critical industries and power plants.
Abiodun mentioned visits to Momas Electricity Meters Manufacturing Company, Coleman Wires and Cables, and Splendor Electric. He also pointed out the Olorunsogo Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) / Nigerian National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) power plant in Papa Lanto. The governor stressed that Ogun State has much more to offer and hopes that Adelabu’s upcoming visit will foster stronger ties with the local industrial sector.
Adelabu’s announcement and Abiodun’s visit highlight ongoing efforts to improve Nigeria’s power infrastructure. The investments will enhance power supply and infrastructure in Ogun State, benefiting both industrial growth and overall economic development.
