10 power plants idle as of 4th January
- Power generation falls to 4,112MW
- 2,126.5MW lost due to sector constraints
The power sector got off to a poor start as of Monday 4th, January 2021. Of the twenty-nine generation plants in the country, 10 of them did not generate electricity. According to data from the Nigerian System Operator (NSO), at least 10 power plants lay idle.
Energy Generated fell from 4,354.7MW on Sunday to 4,112.10MW as early as 6.am on Monday morning. Load rejection and gas constraints are to blame for the drop in energy generated. The non-performing power plants were, affected by Omotosho II, Alaoji, Afam IV &VIhovbor, Gbarain, AES, Olorunsogo II, ASCO, Egbin ST6, and Rivers IPP.
According to the Advisory Power Team (APT), the power sector lost an estimated ₦972 million on January 2, 2021, due to constraints from the insufficient gas supply, distribution infrastructure, and transmission infrastructure”.
