Premier Energies Lights Up Benin with Solar Power

Premier Energies has secured contracts worth $19.95 million to supply and install solar systems in the Republic of Benin, West Africa. The government-backed programme aims to expand access to reliable and sustainable clean energy.

The company will install 750 rooftop solar systems in essential facilities. These include police stations, schools, healthcare centres, and border units. In addition, more than 4,400 solar streetlights will improve safety and nighttime visibility. Furthermore, 650 solar water heaters will serve households and institutions nationwide.

Premier Energies will deliver the project with the General Directorate of Energy Planning and Rural Electrification. The agency operates under Benin’s Ministry of Energy, Water and Mines. Moreover, financing will come from the Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank) and the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID).

Chiranjeev Saluja, Managing Director and CEO of Premier Energies, said the installations will enhance safety, strengthen healthcare, and support education. He added that the initiative will also promote long-term energy sustainability in Benin. Therefore, the contract demonstrates both operational strength and global competitiveness.

Premier Energies, founded in 1995, has grown into India’s leading manufacturer of solar cells and modules. The company also enjoys financial support from GEF Capital, a Washington, D.C.-based private equity firm.

In Q1 FY26, Premier Energies reported a net profit of Rs3.07 billion ($35 million), a 55.3% rise over FY25. Meanwhile, net sales increased by 9.9% to Rs18.2 billion.
