- The plant will supply power to Swiss food and drinks giant Nestle’s factory.
- The plant will enable the factory to reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 1,000 tonnes annually.
- Qair will own, operate and maintain the power plant.
French renewable energy developer Qair has commissioned a ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Morocco. The plant will supply power to Swiss food and drinks giant Nestle’s factory located in El Jadida. The solar park comprises 2,600 PV panels covering an area of 7,000 sq m (75,300 sq ft). Construction of the plant, which cost MAD 12 million ($1.3m), began in August 2020. The plant is the first-ever private solar power plant in Morocco.
Qair will own, operate and maintain the power plant. Qair will supply power to Nestle under a power purchase agreement (PPA). The facility will generate about 1.7 GWh of electricity per year for Nestle’s local manufacturing base. This will enable the factory to reduce its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by as much as 1,000 tonnes annually.
Nestle intends to cut its CO2 emissions to 50% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050
