Qantas has announced a significant menu overhaul for its domestic flights aboard Boeing 737 and Airbus A330 aircraft. This comes as the Australian airline market grapples with upheaval, marked by the collapse of low-cost carrier Bonza and the financial struggles of independent airline Rex. Rex is currently trying to save its regional services amid financial administration.

Starting in October, millions of travellers on Qantas domestic flights will enjoy over 70 new menu items. This update aims to enhance customer service as the airline faces increased competition. The refreshed offerings will be available during six meal periods: breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, and supper.

As the national carrier, Qantas emphasises local produce in its new menu items. Highlights include the DreamTime Tuka Macadamia Granola Slice and Fine Fettle Farmhouse Crackers with whipped feta dip and carrots. These choices reflect Qantas’s commitment to supporting Australian suppliers.

Despite the changes, Qantas assures passengers that the popular Lindt Lindor chocolate balls will remain on the menu. Last year, Qantas served over 2.8 million chocolates on domestic flights, reinforcing its dedication to customer favourites.

The Qantas Group includes low-cost carrier Jetstar and regional airline QantasLink. The airline continues investing heavily in sustainability initiatives, including developing sustainable aviation fuel and reducing onboard waste. Today, Qantas announced plans to introduce more sustainable food packaging, aligning with its efforts to collaborate with suppliers for better options.

In terms of service, Qantas stands out among domestic airlines. It offers complimentary food and beverages, checked baggage, and onboard Wi-Fi in its economy cabins on Boeing 737 and Airbus A330 flights. The airline operates a 75 Boeing 737-800s fleet and 26 Airbus A330s, using the latter for international and high-demand domestic routes.

Onboard, Qantas provides different menus for its business and economy cabins. The business class cabin typically features a more substantial meal than economy class. Recently, Qantas enhanced its lighter snack options, adding hot items for flights longer than two hours. This upgrade follows customer feedback aimed at improving the inflight experience.

Additionally, the selection of spirits in the business class has expanded. Passengers can now enjoy drinks like Campari and Starward Whiskey, catering to the tastes of business travellers.
