The government of Queensland is sponsoring a green hydrogen project and the development of refuelling facilities in South West Queensland with $21.3 million. On behalf of state-owned CS Energy, IHI Engineering Australia, a subsidiary of Japan’s IHI Corp, has been selected to construct the 50-tonne green hydrogen generation plant near Chinchilla, Queensland.
The Konga renewable hydrogen demonstration plant, is planned to open next year, with work starting in September. It will create 50,000 kg of green hydrogen per year and be located near CS Energy’s Kogan Creek Power Station. CS Energy will handle its operations and maintenance. According to CS Energy, the facility will be built by IHI under an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract. The corporation previously completed a feasibility study for the project.
