- Governor Sanwo-Olu will open Rack Centre’s 12MW LGS2 data centre on April 10, doubling Nigeria’s capacity and boosting Lagos as a West African digital hub.
- The AI-ready facility offers 3,240 sqm of white space, six data halls, and West Africa’s lowest Power Usage Effectiveness of 1.35.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will open Rack Centre’s new 12-megawatt data centre, known as LGS2, on April 10. The launch will mark a major step forward for Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and boost Lagos’ standing as West Africa’s technology hub.
Rack Centre built the facility in Lagos to meet growing digital demands. The LGS2 centre doubles Nigeria’s total data capacity and offers businesses modern, scalable solutions for cloud services, artificial intelligence, and digital content management.
Although Lagos continues to grow as a digital hotspot, Nigeria still trails behind South Africa, which holds nearly half of the continent’s data centres.
Rack Centre confirmed the Governor’s attendance in a statement released Monday, April 7. This followed a strategic meeting at Lagos House, Marina, between Sanwo-Olu and the company’s leadership, led by CEO Lars Johannisson.
“This facility strengthens our position across West Africa and marks a defining moment in Lagos’ journey towards becoming a technology-driven state,” the Governor said. He highlighted the centre’s potential to fuel innovation, attract investment, and accelerate digital transformation across industries.
Sanwo-Olu praised the development, saying the centre would strengthen Rack Centre’s footprint in West Africa and boost Lagos’ role in shaping the region’s tech future.
Johannisson described the LGS2 facility as a game-changer. He said Rack Centre designed the data centre to deliver unmatched efficiency, reliability, and environmental sustainability.
“This facility doubles Nigeria’s data capacity,” he said. “It shows our commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation and creating a solid foundation for a digital economy. We will continue to deliver infrastructure that allows businesses to grow and compete globally.”
Rack Centre designed the 12MW IT load facility to meet the needs of modern businesses. It features a hyper-scaler, AI-ready setup with advanced systems for cloud computing, data storage, and artificial intelligence.
Located in Lagos, the facility achieves a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.35—the best in West Africa. It covers 3,240 square metres of white space and includes six data halls, each capable of supporting the entire IT load. The centre also runs on a sustainable energy mix, placing it among the most efficient and eco-conscious data centres on the continent.
With the launch of LGS2, Rack Centre positions Nigeria at the frontlines of Africa’s digital growth.
