REA Commissions Hybrid Solar Mini-Grid in Gombe

  • The hybrid mini-grid system has a total capacity of 85kW.
  • The project comprises an energy storage system and a backup generator and 4.5km distribution network.

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has commissioned an 85kW hybrid solar mini-grid in Gombe State. The State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya commissioned the project and the Managing Director of the REA, Ahmed Salihijo Ahmed in Dakkiti community of Akko Local Government Area of the State. The project was implemented under the Rural Electrification Fund (REF) first call and was constructed by Leading Diagonal Engineering Limited.

The hybrid mini-grid with a total capacity of 85kW comprises 100 solar panels, a 96-battery energy storage system, 30 KVA generator, and 4.5 kilometres of distribution lines.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya noted the advantages of the project to the community stating that “It is important to stress that the benefit of constant electricity will increase socio-economic activities and well-being of the people of Dakkiti and its neighbourhood”.He also charged community members to adequately maintain the project and pay their bills to ensure sustainability. Over 75 per cent of Gombe state residents live in rural communities with a=manu lacking access to electricity.

The Managing Director of the REA Ahmed Salihijo Ahmed, stated that the  Agency has the mandate and responsibility of powering unserved and underserved communities across Nigeria via off-grid solutions. He noted that the project was deployed under the Rural Electrification Fund, aiming to ensure equitable electricity access across Nigeria.
