- REA has signed Performance-Based Agreements with two renewable energy developers
- The developers will deploy solar hybrid mini-grids in 5 communities in 4 states.
The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has signed agreements under the Performance-Based Grant (PBG) scheme for the deployment of solar hybrid mini-grid systems to 5 communities. Two mini-grid developers, ACOB Lighting and Solar Philippines will deploy mini-grids in Edo State (Ajegunle and Sule Abapanu and Bondo Clusters); Makami community, Kaduna State; Obadore community, Ondo State and Ode-Omi community, Ogun State.
The Mini-Grid Performance-Based Grants (PBG) programme aims to make mini-grids deployments more viable for developers. Developers can access grants of US$350/connection with a minimum total grant request of US$10,000 per mini-grid. This initiative is funded by the World Bank as part of the Nigeria Electrification Project.
It is expected that the projects will be completed in the coming months extending the list of communities with access to sustainable energy in the country.
