On Monday, the Rural Electrification Agency signed contracts to begin implementing the Second Phase of the World Bank-sponsored Energizing Education Programme(EEP) under the Nigeria Electrification Project.
The Federal Government’s concept of the EEP is to increase access to clean, reliable and sustainable power supply to thirty-seven (37) Federal Universities and seven (7) Teaching Hospitals using renewable energy sources. The project’s first phase was funded by green bonds issued by the Federal Government of Nigeria and was targeted to benefit nine (9) Federal Universities and one (1) teaching hospital. The EEP Phase II will be implemented in seven Federal Universities and two University Teaching Hospitals across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
Five (5) companies successfully secured procurement in the Phase II contract and signed on Monday with REA. The successful companies include Em-One Energy Solutions (JV), Znshine PV-Tech Co. Ltd, Dongfang Electric International Corporation (that is, DEC), DEC & Mutual Commitment Company Ltd (that is, DEC-MCC), and Eauxwell Nigeria Ltd & Greencells GMBH. This contract is one way REA promotes Public-Private Partnerships between the Federal Government of Nigeria and Private Sector companies. It is also a means to realize the Federal Government’s Economic Recovery and Sustainability Plan.
