Renaissance Pushes Energy Security Drive at University of Ibadan

  • Renaissance deepens support for education, youth development and community-focused energy initiatives.
  • Attah urges Nigeria to confront energy poverty to unlock sustainable economic growth.

Nigeria’s energy security stood at the heart of Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited’s latest engagement at the University of Ibadan. Nigeria’s energy security also guided the company’s renewed commitment to education, youth empowerment and community development. Additionally, the alumni homecoming event created an opportunity to expand discussions on energy poverty and national progress.

During the event, Managing Director Tony Attah stressed that Nigeria cannot grow without resolving energy poverty. He also argued that sustainability must guide national planning. Furthermore, he noted that the country’s oil and gas resources should support inclusive development. While delivering the Distinguished Alumni Lecture titled “Energy, Security, and Economic Sustainability,” he highlighted the link between energy access and economic advancement.

Attah added that energy security generates opportunities capable of transforming millions of lives. Consequently, he stated that Renaissance intends to provide strong leadership in a sector needing urgent direction. He further explained that the company aims to place Nigeria at the core of Africa’s industrial development.

Because of this ambition, Attah said Renaissance plans to unite private and public stakeholders behind practical energy solutions. He described the company as “a new beginning” for Nigeria’s modern energy landscape.

Earlier in the day, the Faculty of Technology welcomed Attah, with Dean Professor Isaac Bamgboye leading the reception. The visit also featured the inauguration of a synthetic mini football pitch, donated by Renaissance and its joint venture partners: NNPC, TotalEnergies, and Agip Energy and Natural Resources.

Attah explained that the pitch, called the Renaissance JV Arena, stands as a symbol of excellence and youth-focused development. In addition, he emphasised that such projects strengthen community engagement across the university.

He later funded the renovation of the Independence Hall reading rooms, which he once used as a student. He also supported the Light Up U.I. Project, a solar-powered streetlight scheme established by Renaissance U.I. Alumni.

To close the event, the university honoured Attah with an Award of Excellence. The institution praised his service to the oil and gas industry, his leadership in sustainable energy and his dedication to education and community upliftment.
