Renaissance Africa Energy Company won the Energy Deal of the Year for 2025 at the Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) 2026 in Abuja. The award recognises the company’s $2.4 billion acquisition of Shell’s onshore assets. Industry stakeholders describe the deal as a major shift in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

The NIES awards committee said the March 2025 transaction strengthened indigenous participation in upstream operations. It also increased Nigeria’s operational control in the sector. As a result, the deal marked a major milestone in Nigeria’s push for energy autonomy.

The committee described the transaction as historic. It noted that the deal changed ownership dynamics across the industry. Therefore, the acquisition now stands as one of the most significant energy transactions in Nigeria’s recent history.

Renaissance Managing Director and CEO Tony Attah said the award reflects Nigerian capability in the global energy industry. He also said Nigerians can build and operate world-class energy companies at scale. He added that the acquisition represented a turning point for indigenous operators.

Meanwhile, he dedicated the award to Renaissance staff, partners, and host communities. He said the company continues to show that Nigeria can lead innovation and operational excellence in Africa’s energy sector. In addition, he said local companies can shape the continent’s energy future.

The recognition builds on several awards the company received in 2025. These include the Energy Excellence Award at Nigeria Oil and Gas Energy Week. The company also won Nigerian Content International Upstream Operator of the Year. Meanwhile, Tony Attah received the Local Content Icon of the Year award from the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board.

Renaissance Africa operates Nigeria’s largest oil and gas joint venture assets. The company operates under the NNPC, Renaissance, TotalEnergies, and AENR joint venture. Its operations cover onshore, swamp, and shallow water assets across the Niger Delta.
