- ReNergy will develop a waste-to-power plant in Giza.
- ReNergy will supply the power from the plant to the Egyptian grid.
- The government plans to reduce waste pollution by 50% through the adoption of a circular economy.
ReNergy Group has signed an agreement with the Egyptian Ministry of Military Production, the Egyptian Ministries of Local Development, Environment and the Giza Governorate to allocate the land to develop a waste-to-power plant.
The Indian based clean energy provider will develop the plant in the Abu Rawach municipality in Giza. The plant will incinerate about 1,200 tonnes of solid waste per day to recover heat for electricity generation. ReNergy will supply electricity generated from the plant to Egypt’s national electricity grid.
This project is also expected to reduce large amounts of waste pollution, especially in Giza, where recycling and waste treatment is difficult. The Egyptian Ministry of Local Development will monitor all project stages, from implementation to commercial operation.
The waste-to-energy project launched in Giza is part of a larger initiative of the Egyptian government that aims to reduce solid and sanitary waste pollution by 50 per cent by 2030 through the adoption of a circular economy.
