- Talgo and Respol will work together to deploy hydrogen-powered trains.
- Talgo will design and manufacture new trains while Repsol will provide clean hydrogen for the trains.
- Spain plans to have two dedicated hydrogen-powered train lines by 2030.
Talgo has already developed ‘Vittal One’, a hydrogen fuel cells-powered train for medium-distance and commute travel. The train is set to undergo demonstration and validation operations in November this year.
Under the partnership, Talgo will work on the design, manufacturing and commissioning of new trains, while the Repsol will provide renewable hydrogen production infrastructure and logistical means to supply the railway network.
According to Repsol, it will produce hydrogen from biogas from processing organic waste at its industrial centres. The company will also install two 00MW electrolysers at the Cartagena and Petronor refineries.
Spain government plans to have two lines being serviced by hydrogen-powered trains by 2030 as one of its national green hydrogen strategy objectives. t=The Talgo-Repsol partnership is expected to help the government to meet this target.
