Rocky Mountain Institute to Partner with Nigeria for Energy Transition

Obtaining enough climate funding, mainly through the African Carbon Market Initiative, is one of the objectives of the Federal Government in pursuing a just energy transformation strategy, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) (ACMI).

While hosting a delegation from the Rocky Mountain Institute, a global think tank active in the energy transition debate for the past 40 years, he made this statement yesterday.

Osinbajo had virtually attended a meeting of the ACMI Steering Committee to discuss the status of the initiatives to expand the market in Nigeria and Africa.

He declared that the Federal Government would be addressing climate finance challenges. These initiatives will progress Nigeria’s goal of becoming net-zero by 2060 and investigate the viability of electric vehicles there.

The CEO of Rocky Mountain Institute, Mr Jon Creyts, stated that his organization was prepared to collaborate with Nigeria on the Federal Government’s Energy Transition Plan since it shared this commitment.

The Steering Committee stated during the ACMI meeting that it aims to get $1 billion in total pledges from buyers before COP28, which will take place later this year. Ivan Duque Marquez, the former president of Colombia, and officials from the Rockefeller Foundation, the United Nations, and the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), are also members of ACMI in addition to the Vice President.
