Romania Launches EUR 278M Renewable Energy Drive

  • Romania’s energy ministry has initiated a renewable energy drive project worth EUR 278 million.
  • Funding is sourced from European funds under the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism.

Romania’s energy ministry unveils plans for two key renewable energy drive projects. These projects focus on batteries and photovoltaic (PV) panels. Their combined value exceeds EUR 278 million (USD 299m).

The projects receive support from European funds. This is part of the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism. The application window is from February 8 to March 21.

The first project aims to boost energy resilience. It plans to establish a minimum 240 MW/480 MWh battery energy storage capacity by June 30, 2026. The budget is around EUR 79.6 million.

The second project aims to nurture various initiatives. These include battery, PV cell, and panel production. It allocates EUR 149.25 million for battery development. Another EUR 49.75 million is set aside for PV cell and panel expansion.

The ministry sets ambitious targets. Romania aims for at least 2 GW of annual battery capacity. It also targets a minimum of 200 MW of annual PV cell capacity by June 30, 2026.
