Hidroelectrica, a Romania majority state-owned hydropower producer, announced on Thursday that it is seeking consultants that will draft a feasibility study towards the construction of a 300 MW photovoltaic plants and a green hydrogen production facility on the Olt river.
The former basin of the Fagaras-Hoghiz reservoir lake will host the solar park. The electricity generated will be used primarily to power the green hydrogen plant that will be built in the second stage of the investment. This was announced by Hidroelectrica in a tender notice that was published in Romania’s electronic system for public procurement, SEAP.
The company also plans to produce green hydrogen using a 100 MW hydrolyzer which will use water from the Olt river.
The feasibility study costs 12.4 million lei ($2.7 million), and the deadline for the submission of offers is July 12.
The Romanian state owns 80.06% of Hidroelectriica, and the remaining 19.94% belongs to Investment Fund Proprietatea. The company owns 209 hydropower plants with a total installed capacity of 6,482 MW in its portfolio. In December, Hidroelectrica announced it is seeking consultants to draft a feasibility study for constructing a 50MW green hydrogen production plant near the Portile de Fier gorge on the Danube.
