- Oil supplies from Russia to Senegal hit 550,000 metric tons in the first two months of 2024 alone.
- Exports totalled 1.08 million tons throughout 2023 and 0.37 million tons for 2022.
Traders and data from The London Stock Exchange (LSEG) have shown that Russia has increased its fuel exports to Senegal. This is as oil supplies to Senegal hit 550,000 metric tons in the first two months of 2024 alone.
In contrast, exports totalled 1.08 million tons for 2023 and 0.37 million tons for 2022. The London Stock Exchange attributes the rise in exports to heightened demand for bunker fuel as companies redirect cargo through the Southern African maritime route.
According to the International Bunker Industry Association, this trend has prompted a notable uptick in the consumption of fuel oil.
While the majority of Russian fuel oil supplies to Senegal are dispatched from Baltic ports like Vysotsk, Ust-Luga, and St. Petersburg, diesel exports have also seen an uptick, reaching approximately 0.2 million metric tons since the beginning of 2024, compared to 0.8 million tons in 2023.
