- HomeBiogas has won the contract to supply biodigesters in the Eastern Province of Rwanda.
- The systems supplied to farmers will produce biogas and bio-fertiliser from agricultural waste.
HomeBiogas triumphs, winning Rwandan biodigesters. On the eve of the recently finished 27th UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP27) in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, the Beit Yanai, an Israel-based company and the United Nations (UN), which launched the initiative, inked a deed of commitment.
HomeBiogas will offer its solutions to farmers as part of its deal. The equipment will be utilized to make biogas out of organic garbage. Biogas will reduce deforestation by eliminating the need to cut wood for home cooking.
To stimulate the soil, strengthen the plant, and allow farmers to save money on fertilizers and other plant protection goods, the digestate produced by the fermentation of agricultural waste is used as a multipurpose fertiliser in addition to chemical fertilisers.
To fulfil this dual role, the HomeBiogas biodigesters have been fitted with methanogenic bacteria, similar to those found in the stomachs of cows, which break down organic waste, creating a clean gas and bio-fertiliser.
The last two contracts won by the Israeli company were to supply biodigesters to refugee camps in Malawi and Zimbabwe. And according to the UN, the advantage of the HomeBiogas solution beyond safe delivery is its easy installation and sustainability.
