• RWE embarks on its latest strategy to increase renewables in Germany.
• The wind park will have a cumulative capacity of 1.7MW.
German energy group RWE has announced the commencement of construction operations of a 1.7MW wind farm in Lower Saxony. The plant is expected to begin commercial operations in the late summer of this year.
The wind farm will consist of three Nordex turbines with a hub height of 134 metres (146.5 yards) installed in the Harburg district about 50 kilometres (31.07 miles) south of Hamburg, the electricity produced by the park will be enough to supply 7,500 households. RWE noted.
The project is the newest step in RWE’s strategy to boost the expansion of renewables in Germany. The group has more than 580MW of installed onshore wind capacity across the country and plans to invest EUR 15 billion (USD 16.97bn) in offshore and onshore wind, solar, storage, flexible backup capacities and hydrogen in the home market by the end of the decade. In December, the Essen-based group and the municipal utility in Kerpen, North Rhine-Westphalia, signed a statement of intent to jointly develop two wind projects with a combined capacity of 50MW on the Marienfeld field and along the A4 motorway in western Germany.
