Ryan Air Buys 1,000 Tonnes of Sustainable Aviation Fuel from Shell

Ryan Air buys 1,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from Shell. The fuel will supply Ryan Air’s Stansted Airport base.

This follows an agreement between the companies in 2022. The deal allows Ryanair to purchase up to 360,000 tonnes of SAF from Shell between 2025 and 2030.

Ryanair’s announcement comes during an event showcasing its decarbonisation tools. The airline aims for net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Ryan Air has advanced decarbonisation through partnerships with Trinity College Dublin. Thomas Fowler, Ryan Air’s sustainability and finance director, highlights the airline’s leadership in sustainable aviation.

He mentions using SAF, modern engine tech, and electric ground equipment. Fowler acknowledges Shell and MAG as critical partners.

He emphasises Ryan Air’s commitment to making every flight environmentally efficient. Ashleigh McDougall, Shell’s GM Aviation Europe and South Africa, expresses pleasure in supplying SAF to Ryan Air at Stansted Airport. McDougall applauds the conversion of intentions into actions.

Shell remains committed to supporting customers in their decarbonisation journeys.
