Saglev Launches First Nigerian-Owned Fully Assembled Electric Vehicle in Lagos

  • Saglev, an automotive company based in Lagos state, has launched its electric vehicles (EVs) assembly plant.
  • In December 2023, Saglev’s CEO, Sam Faleye, underscored the company’s commitment to building an extensive EV charging network.

Saglev, an electric vehicle brand, was launched during the Lagos Auto Show, which was held between February 15 and 17, 2024. The United States-based company said it would begin assembling electric vehicles in January 2024.

With an assembly plant situated in Ikorodu, Lagos state, Saglev is also delving into the establishment of charging infrastructure for its electric vehicles (EVs). In a noteworthy development in December 2023, Sam Faleye, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the company’s commitment to developing an extensive EV charging network.

Despite being primarily an automotive manufacturer, Saglev recognizes the imperative of creating charging points due to the country’s unreliable power supply.

In 2023, Faleye disclosed that Saglev’s initial manufacturing facility boasts a minimum capacity of 2500 units annually. The company’s Nigerian factory, designed at approximately two and a half times the size of its Ghanaian counterpart, reflects its commitment to expanding its manufacturing capabilities.

Furthermore, Saglev has solidified its dedication to advancing the electric mobility sector through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ardova, executed through its Renewables subsidiary. Ardova, known as the proprietor of Enyo, strategically positions itself with ambitious plans to delve into EV charging, capitalizing on its existing real estate assets.

The collaboration between Saglev and Ardova marks a closely knit and symbiotic relationship. Focused on fostering the widespread adoption of electric vehicles, Saglev is determined to proliferate EV chargers.

Simultaneously, Ardova aims to support this initiative by providing accessible charging infrastructure, reflecting a symbiosis that epitomizes a strategic alliance where both entities contribute to and reap the benefits of the evolving landscape of electric mobility.
