Sahara Group Foundation Launches 16th Recycling Hub in Lagos

Sahara Group Foundation, the corporate social impact arm of Sahara Group, inaugurated its 16th Sahara Go-Recycling Hub in Lekki, Lagos State. The launch reinforces the Foundation’s commitment to sustainable waste management, environmental protection, and community empowerment.

The new hub is the first in the network to feature a solar-powered Reverse Vending Machine. Residents can deposit recyclables into the energy-efficient system, promoting responsible waste disposal and supporting the recovery of resources.

The Sahara Go-Recycling initiative encourages households and communities to adopt recycling habits while earning income from recyclables. Since its inception, the programme has collected over 650 tonnes of waste and paid more than ₦55 million to beneficiaries, benefiting more than 1,200 households.

Key speakers at the commissioning included the Director of the Sahara Group Foundation, Chidilim Menakaya; the Executive Director, Moroti Adedoyin-Adeyinka; the Board Trustee, Dr Anthony Youdeowei; and the CEO of Eco Barter, Rita Idehai. Graduate Management Trainee representative Elushade Oluwatumininu also spoke.

Furthermore, Director Chidilim Menakaya said the hub represents innovation, economic opportunity, and community resilience. Executive Director Moroti Adedoyin-Adeyinka highlighted the project’s role in inspiring sustainable habits and creating economic value.

Dr Anthony Youdeowei and partners from Asharami Synergy, Eco Barter, and Sahara Group 2025 Graduate Management Trainees praised the initiative for combining technology, community engagement, and sustainability.

The Foundation plans to expand the Go-Recycling network across Lagos and other African communities to strengthen circular economy practices and “build sustainable communities through EXTRApreneurship.”
