Saudi Arabia Launches 5 RE Projects

  • Renewable energy projects in Saudi Arabia will produce about 3300MW of electricity.
  • The project is aimed toward reaching the country’s vision of 2030

Saudi Arabia’s bid to increase its renewable energy capacity has led to the launch of five new projects. This project, under the supervision of the Ministry of Energys’ National Renewable Energy Program [NERP] stage 4, is launched by the Saudi Power Procurement Company[SPPC]. This project aims to maximize and increase the contribution of renewable energy available in the country to 50% and to decarbonize the economy in line with vision 2030.

 

The projects include three wind and two solar energy farms with a total capacity of 3,300 megawatts of electricity. The solar projects with a capacity of about 1,500 megawatts are located at Al Hinakiyah (11,000MW) and Tabarjal (400MW). The wind projects with a total capacity of (1800MW) are located at Yanbu(700MW), Waad Al Shamal(500MW), and Al-Ghat(600MW).

 

The project implementer SPPC will be involved in planning and executing power purchase and wholesale agreements.
