Saudi Arabia to Boost Electricity Supply Ahead of Hajj 2021

As Saudi Arabia prepares for the forthcoming Hajj, the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) will spend more than SR480 million ($127.9 million) on new electricity projects around Makkah and the holy sites. The SEC states that the projects will boost the efficiency of the grid during the Hajj.

The Chief Executive Officer (SEC), Khaled Bin Hamad Al-Gnoon, has stated that the project will include replacing 7,785 old mechanical meters with smart ones. The network capacity in Arafat will also benefit from the funding. More than 700 engineers, technicians and specialists are working around the clock to implement the operational plan for this year’s Hajj season, the company said.
