- Savannah Energy receives approval to develop clean energy in Chad.
- The renewable energy facility will have a combined capacity of 500MW.
Savannah Energy, British Independent Power Producer (IPP), is set to develop clean energy plants with a combined capacity of 500MW. The firm has acquired permission from the Chadian authorities. The plants will supply power to three towns, as well as to oil facilities.
Savannah will implement its project through the construction of three renewable energy plants. The largest will have a capacity of 300 MWp. This solar photovoltaic plant will be sited in Kome, a town in the Logone Oriental region. The park will be equipped with an electricity storage system to reduce the impact of intermittency related to solar photovoltaic energy production. The electricity generated will power the Doba oil site, which relies on fossil fuels.
The Kome solar facility is expected to go into commercial operation in 2025. It will be connected to Chad’s national electricity grid, thus providing clean electricity to the cities of Doba and Moundou.
